East London Cabbies Outing 2014
Wednesday 2nd July 2014
I had an early start last week with the opportunity to be part of the convoy of Taxi's driving from Upton Park to the Plume School, Maldon. Batteries charged, breakfast shovelled down and I was on my way to South Woodham Ferrers police station to have a briefing prior to our drive through rush hour traffic down the A13 to Upton Park.
A bit of history behind it, The East London Cabbies Outing has been running since 1952 and is a charity run taking children with special needs and learning difficulties on a day out to Maldon. We were joined on the day by the local Blue Knights motorcycle group who assisted the Police Motorcyclist team along the route.
When we got there there was already a group of around 20-30 taxi's parked up with the drivers frantically puffing in to balloons and sticking signs to their cabs before the kids turned up.
A bit of history behind it, The East London Cabbies Outing is a charity event which sees London Cabbies take children with special needs on a day out to Maldon.
The weather we had was absolutely glorious, we couldn't have asked for better. What was interesting to see is how the police bikes work as a team to get the convoy of nearly 60 taxis through the traffic in one piece.
We stopped off in Margaretting for a drink at a local pub which gave the kids an opportunity to have a look at the police bikes should they want to before setting off again to finish up in Maldon.
Overall a fantastic day, I think everyone involved enjoyed the day and I got some great shots (even if I did have to hang out of the side of a moving car to get some of them), a small selection of which are below.
